Five Tips for College Students to Make the Most out of Their Holiday Break

by Robin White
in Lifestyle

One of the most wonderful times of the year is when Christmas and New Year’s roll around. The holidays are a fun and exciting time, but it may be a difficult adjustment to go back to living with your parents after you’ve been away. Everybody wants to make the most of their holidays, so sometimes they speed through their assignments without giving them much thought. Using an essay writing service to help with those last-minute assignments ensures your grades aren’t affected right before the holiday break.

Here are some other useful tips to keep in mind to ensure a fun holiday break.

  1. Health Must Come First

It is essential to think about both your own personal health and the health of the people you will be spending the holidays with in your hometown before packing your bags to return there for the holidays. If you are a student, you should think about taking a COVID-19 test forty-eight hours before the time that you want to depart.

Testing is the best approach to safeguard the health and safety of individuals you will interact with while on winter vacation. This is true even if you are completely vaccinated against the virus. A negative test result can also provide you with the much-needed peace of mind required when travelling.

Before you go, ensure you have plenty of personal protection items you’ll need if you’re flying or taking the train back home. When negotiating congested airports or railway stations, take along a bottle of hand sanitizer designed for travel or a pack of antibacterial wipes. In addition, you should acquire some disposable masks so that you may swap them out every hour or two while you are on the road.

  1. Assume Everything Done Is with the Best Intentions

In college, you’ll develop your independence and learn about who you are and who you want to be. It’s probable that throughout the past semester, whether you’re aware of it or not, you’ve become more autonomous. Your political, social, or fundamental convictions may have shifted as well. While necessary for developing your unique identity, this may result in conflicts or disputes that you have never had before with your family.

Always assuming the other person has good intentions is the best strategy for navigating these significant life transitions. Take a step back from the conversation when it gets hot or when someone says something you don’t agree with and remind yourself that everyone participating is probably well-intentioned. One of the best ways to diffuse uncomfortable circumstances is to remember that loved ones surround you.

  1. Stick to Your Routine

Develop or maintain a daily routine to make the most of your holiday break. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle will make it much easier on your body and mind to return to college in January. Allow yourself to take some time to sleep in and catch up on your sleep. Now is also the time to look into an essay writing service to see if they can help you in any way the next term.

Despite this, you shouldn’t develop a routine of staying up late and then sleeping till midday. Once you return to school, it will be difficult to stop this behaviour. To help you stick to your routine, use an alarm clock to wake yourself up each day. You can get the assistance of your parents or siblings in holding you accountable by sharing this time with them, but you can’t be furious at them for waking you up!

  1. Remain Active

Although it may be tempting to spend the holidays lounging on your bed or couch, doing so will not benefit your body or mind. Take some time to unwind and recuperate, but push yourself to move more frequently during the day. If it’s safe to do so, suggest going for walks, to the park, or to the gym with your parents or siblings. Being active has been shown to keep your immune system strong and your mind sharp. Remaining active will pay big dividends when you start your next semester of college.

  1. Keep Yourself Engaged

For college students, winter break is a lot longer than it was in high school. Usually lasting a month, breaks give students plenty of opportunity to rest. While getting enough sleep is crucial, make an effort to continue studying while you’re on vacation. Contrary to popular belief, learning is still valuable even if it is not directly related to your classes or even your major in college.

Set a goal for yourself to read books or do research on subjects you are passionate about but did not have time to complete during your hectic semester. During your free time, learn about intriguing topics or find strategies to become a better leader by listening to podcasts or TED Talks. It doesn’t matter whether you enjoy reading or listening; what counts is that you maintain your mental sharpness throughout your extended vacation.
